Survivor: Yakushima - All-Stars is the eighth season of Bennett's Survivor series. It began on August 31st, 2016 and ended on September 20th, 2016. Following Khao Sok, this is the second season to feature returning players. However, this is the first season to feature a full cast of returnees. This is also the first season to feature twenty players, the largest cast size to date. Joshbb17 was titled the Sole Survivor, winning in a 7-2 vote against Duffybutt11. At the reunion, ThePug was honored with the "Player of the Season" award.
Production[]
Survivor: Yakushima - All-Stars began with twenty castaways from the seven previous seasons. They were initially divided into two tribes: Tsugaru (in gold) and Urakami (in black). Both of these tribes were named after Japanese clans. On Day 12, the two tribes merged into Uesugi also named after a Japanese clan, named by ThePug.
Twists[]
- Returning Players: For the first time in Bennett's Survivor history, the cast was made up entirely of players from previous seasons. This season was the second season to ever feature returning players, following Khao Sok.
- Schoolyard Pick: On Day 1, the tribes were divided via a schoolyard pick. The first immunity challenge was an individual challenge in which two castaways, islandsurvivor and Jxhn, won. These two became the leaders of their respective tribes and picked one person to join them. This chain continued until each tribe consisted of ten. This was the first time that a schoolyard pick was done in Bennett's Survivor Series.
- Double Tribal Council: After the schoolyard pick, it was revealed the the newly-divided tribes would both be going to tribal council at the same time. This was the first season in which a double Tribal Council occurred at the very beginning of the game. Another double Tribal Council occurred at the final fourteen, when both losing tribes, Tsugaru and Urakami, voted off one of their own while Go Hojo won immunity.
- Tribe Expansion: At the final fifteen, a new tribe, Go Hojo, was introduced. The remaining members of Urakami and Tsugaru were subsequently reshuffled into three new tribes of five. These tribes remained until the merge.
